Gov website named design of the year

This very simplistic govenment website has been named Design of the Year 2013. This is not website design of the year but the award from the design museum. Previous winners include the London 2012 Olympic Torch and the Plumen lightbulb so it is surprising to see a website up there, let alone a website so mild mannered and simple as this UK government website but then maybe that is the point?

Hex Colour Tool

This is a really handy colour tool.

Add in your hex code and then set a percentage to darken or lighten and voila, you have a set of colours to use on your website

Inspirational website

I love this website by Andrew Mccarthy. It is a really clever yet simple idea to use the scroll of a website to emulate "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop" but instead with a cat.

Christmas Bauballs

What can be more festive than christmas baubles and these really are!  Ad agency Fallon have teamed up with Orchid, a charity fighting male cancer, and created these great christmas tree ornaments to raise money and awareness of the disease.

the age of 3D printing is upon up and what better thing to make, than a replica of yourself.  Go to Japan and get yourself your own mini me.   Omote 3D have developed the the world’s first 3D printing booth.  Go to the booth at Tokyo’s Eye of Gyre from 24 November-14 January, step inside and instead of a phot get yourself a miniture plastic figure of yourself.

John Lewis have produced another tear jerker of a Christmas Advert. This one is called "The Journey" with a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘Power of Love’ sung by Gabrielle Aplin as the soundtrack

The Turner Prize

The Turner Prize is upon us again and it reminded me of this great Banksy quote

Rounded triangle in Illustrator

I always forget how to do round cornered triangles in illustrator but it really is very simple. Create a normal sharp edged triangle
Go to effect > stylize > round corners
Go to object > path > expand appearance Easy!

I'm sad that the amazing London Olympics are now over but there is a neat little scrolling website made by "Never Bland" that highlights some of the fantastic achievements over the summer with some cute animations. Watch out for the Queen parachuting in and Jessica Ennis's 6 pack. Well done Team GB

Velodrome Vs The Chemical Brothers

The amazing Velodrome at the London 2012 Olympics has seen huge excitement, raw emotions and a mountain of medals for Team GB.

It also has an amazing video that plays before each session that comprises of Chemical Brothers music and fantastic tron inspired graphics.
