Apple Clothing Line

We all remember that the 80's were really a bit of a strange fashion era, even if now some of it is worming it's way into today shelves, but did you know that Apple had their own fantastic clothing line and no it is not made up of black turtle necks.

Lego Art

Who doesn't love LEGO® ? Still always in the top 5 children toys after being created in the 1930's. Well Nathan Sawaya a New York-based artist obviously still does as he creates some beautiful art works from these little bricks. Sawaya’s art is currently touring North American museums in a show titled, The Art of the Brick. It’s the only exhibition focusing exclusively on LEGO as an art medium.

check out the website to see more of his wonderful art and find out more about the exhibition

responsive slide menu

Here is a nice way to do a responsive menu that kind of emulates the facebook iphone menu instead of the usual responsive stacking menu.

Spotify playing on your website

Spotify announced yesterday the introduction of their own global play button that lets you embed your own Spotify playlist on your site.

It is incredibly easy to use. All you need is your Spotify playlist url, right click a track, playlist, or album within Spotify, choose HTML Link, then paste the link into Spotify's developer website and it generates the html for an iframe for you to copy and paste into your site. There are also options to customise how it appears.

The drawbacks are that it is not immediately apparent that the user will need to have a spotify account to play it and the music does not play through the browser, but from the Spotify application itself and people used to flash players will no doubt get a little confused.

However I'm convinced and imagine it will be seen on a large number of sites.

And I am currently listening to the Maccabees

Grime Graffiti

How do you graffiti London without causing a mess? Well Moose Curtis, a renowned British clean artist has managed just that by transforming Southbank with his artworks using some elbow grease and Flash cleaning products. Featuring up to 5,000 images, Moose and his team will spend around 150 hours creating the images by cleaning the dirt and dust from some of the Southbank’s surfaces.

Airplane Toilet Self-Portraits

Artist Nina Katchadourian, on airplanes goes into the toilets and makes herself up using the tissues and then creates a rather cool and fuuny photo. She calls the series “Seat Assignment: Lavatory Self-Portraits in the Flemish Style.”

Cat Scratching DJ Decks

This is genius. A cat scratching post that is in the shape of decks. How cool would you be if you saw you cat on this! My cat would then be a phat cat rather than just a fat cat!

Pagination

I was thinking which way should pagination go? In most sites it works like a book so you start on the page one and arrow right to the next page to ad infinitum. Whist this makes sense for sites like google or a shopping site where you expect to land on page 1 and then "turn over" to page 2 for news and blog sites should we not be going the other way? If I am reading the most recent story then surely I need to "turn the page" back to see older stories.

Bing overtakes yahoo search

A while ago I saw the film "Source Code" and while it was an OK film what amused me was a reviewer saying that the most unbelievable thing in the film was that someone was using the search engine Bing. However news is that Bing search engine has now overtaken Yahoo search engine.

Whilst this may not be saying much it is interesting that  Bing gained 3.1% of market share while Yahoo lost 1.5% and Google lost 0.7%. Google still has the lion's share of 65 percent share however!

The Bing interface is actually quite nice and has some amazing images.  The problem is google is just too integrated into me now to ever think of being unfaithful

Let it Snow

New Christmassy Easter Egg from Google. Type in Let it snow in google and watch little snow flakes fall down the screen. Eventually the whole screen gets covered in snow but don't worry, there is a quick defrost button where the search should be or just draw a pretty pattern with your mouse.

Crazy Wall Art

This is fantastic wall art by Dan Witz. Funny and a bit scary I love it!

Also comes as a goat and the tasmanian devil.

No more time

For some reason, the powers that be, have decided to make the HTML5 <time> element tag obsolete. Instead now we should use <data>. I really don't understand the reasoning behind this and also from other blogs nobody seems to think this is a good idea.
Hopefully, after all the backlash the time element will get reinstated by Ian Hickson

What's your number

The world population is expected to reach 7 billion in the next few weeks and the BBC have developed this tool to find out where you fit into that. By filling out your date of birth you can see what number you were when born from people alive and from all time

7 billion people and you: What's your number?

Thanks, Steve

After the sad news of Steve Jobs passing on the 5 October I found this very touching design named just "Thanks, Steve".

The logo was created as a tribute by Jonathan Mak Long, a 19-year-old designer living in Hong Kong where it incorporates Jobs' silhouette into the bite of the Apple logo.
